The 23rd edition of CTM, themed Contact, will take place as a mix of in-person and hybrid/online formats, and aims to explore the fragility of physical and communal music experiences, and imagine how we might strengthen them in this new pandemic reality.

  • Kontinuum, which seeks generative artworks that respond to the CTM 2022 theme and evolve in sonically interesting ways over the course of one year. Deadline 19 September.

Essays and interviews related to CTM 2021 Transformation

New articles have been published in relation to the Transformation theme. MusicMakers Hacklab founder and host Peter Kirn recounts experiences from this past year's Hacklab, in dialogue with co-host Olivia Jack and participants, as they navigated restrictions on meeting in person, developping and testing out new modes of remote collaboration. Two new essays resulting from our Rethinking Music Ecosystems workshops are also online. Taeyoon Choi asks what are the costs of our cultural ecosystem’s shared reliance on centralised platforms, such as Facebook, YouTube, and Spotify, and provides and introduction and ideas on how we could begin to move away from them. Reflecting on the past year of politics, protest, and parties, gonzo journalist Michelle Lhooq outlines how tumult and change have led her to rethink the relationship between drug use and counterculture.

Further articles related to CTM 2021 Transformation can be found via the CTM Magazine, using the #transformation keyword. Most articles from past CTM festival editions are also now available online.
