CTM Festival and the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) London partner for a two-day programme this autumn, marking the first time CTM arrives in the UK, and leading up to its 25th anniversary edition in 2024.

ICA’s theatre will feature late night programmes of DJs, live sets and UK premieres, spanning forward-thinking club sounds to sub-bass and spatial sound, visceral postmodern opera through to gabber and apocalyptic noise. In the cinema, screenings and live audiovisual projects respond to experiences of war in Ukraine, as a starting point towards cross-border resistance and understanding. The programmes are supported by Goethe-Institut London and Goethe-Institut in Exile.

A Saturday-night afterparty at Venue MOT will close the two-day programme.

Club Night: CTM x arkaoda x Morphine x Latent Sonorities

Presented by CTM x arkaoda x Morphine x Latent Sonorities, this night headlines Raja Kirik, a duo of Yennu Ariendra and Mo’ong Santoso Pribadi that explores the dark, nonlinear history of the island of Java through Indonesian trance dances. Yennu Ariendra will also appear solo with his project Y-DRA which explores Indonesian popular music dangdut koplo, while Rabih Beaini and Kakubo will bring their distinctive and mind-bending selections to the DJ booth later on in the night.

Before the night begins, be sure to catch Raja Kirik's Mo'ong Santoso Pribadi at Latent Sonorities, a three-day concert series at Morphine Raum. The concert will feature new works created using a sample pack and tuning files from the Javanese gamelan of Ruma Budaya Indonesia Berlin. Other artists performing within the series include Bilawa Respati, Tusa Montes, and Wanton Witch.

CTM 2024: Open Call Reminder

CTM 2024 Sustain key visual Image: Vojd

A reminder that three open calls related to CTM 2024 are still running. Together with Deutschlandfunk Kultur – Hörspiel / Klangkunst and in collaboration with Goethe-Institut, ORF musikprotokoll im steirischen herbst, Ö1 Kunstradio, and tekhnē, the CTM Radio Lab seeks proposals from artists worldwide that engage with the emancipatory potential of technology in music and sound art. The Research Networking Day invites graduate and post-graduate students as well as independent artists conducting self-guided research to submit proposals for short presentations traversing the fields of audio, arts, media, design, and related theoretical disciplines. Writers and thinkers wishing to engage with the topic of Sustain, as well as ongoing topics within independent music ecosystems and scenes, are invited to submit proposals to the CTM Magazine.

tekhnē: Open Call Reminder

tekhnē is a collaborative project in which six European organisations aim to explore the emancipatory potential of technology in music and sound art. By engaging critically and creatively with technology, and by putting the focus on the user rather than the developer, technologies and methodologies can be demystified and lead to more autonomous mindsets towards the tools around us. tekhnē is initiated by Q-O2 (BE), CTM Festival (DE), Skaņu Mežs (LV), OUT.RA (PT), GMEA (FR), TRAFO (PL), and is co-funded by the European Union.

On top of the CTM Radio Lab open call which runs in collaboration with tekhnē until 10 September 2023, an open call for applications to research residencies offered by GMEA, TRAFO, and Q-02 is currently out until 15 September 2023.
