Featuring works engaging with KSYME – the Contemporary Music Research Center in Athens by Alyssa Moxley, Gaspar Cohen, Giulia Vismara, Max Eilbacher, Savvas Metaxas, and Sofia Eleni Xezonaki, this first release on CTM Editions explores multiple ways of reworking archived materials via re-interpreting scores, concepts, compositional methodologies, and personal/ historical narratives. Available free of charge on Bandcamp and Soundcloud.

A result of a namesake lab, Chronotopia Echoes / Αντηχήσεις took place within a wider project titled Chronotopia, initiated by CTM Festival and Goethe-Institut Athen with Athens & Epidaurus Festival. Through several events and commissions the initiative  aimed to highlight connections between experimental music, research, and media practice.

CTM 2024: Full Discourse Playlist on Soundcloud

New releases round up the collection of CTM 2024 talks.

In »The Sweetness of Coming Undone: Rough Experience and Electronic Music Cultures« Luis Manuel Garcia-Mispireta examines how people find ways to get along and share a dancefloor, a vibe, and a sound. Drawing on time spent in the minimal techno and house music subscenes in Chicago, Paris, and Berlin as the first decade of the new millennium came to a close, Garcia-Mispireta rethinks intimacy and belonging through dancing crowds and the utopian vision of throbbing dancefloors.

The talk »Listening in Oceania« begins with a short input from the expert in indigenous rights and international environmental law, Fleur Ramsay, after which the artists AM Kanngieser, Mere Nailatikau, and KMRU spoke about their installation »Oceanic Refractions« with the scholar Anita Jóri. The discussion touched among other on how the work was conceptualised and created, on the Pacific context in which it is grounded, as well as on the techniques and ethics of working with testimony and field recordings.

Two new CTM Magazine articles have been published this past month.

Writer and artist oxi peng returns with a second conversation, this time with 33EMYBW, the alias of Shanghai-based producer Shanmin Wu. Titled »Blossoming Spirits of the Dreaming Arthropods« the conversation dives deeper into 33EMYBW's hyper-real worlds which the artist describes as the Arthropods Continent,  they contemplate on how these worlds have grown from the orifices of the East, and further blossom into the spirits that one's ear drum might encounter among 33EMYBW's beats and rhythms.

The article »Hybrid Resonances: Tradition and Experimentation at the KSYME Contemporary Music Research Centre« by the musician and journalist Ioannis Kotsonis is an in-depth portrait then and now of a centre that has much impacted contemporary music and culture in Greece and beyond. It is published as a companion piece to The Chronotopia Echoes album, which invited six sound artists and composers of electronic or electroacoustic music to interact with the centre's vast archives with the aim to create new works, now published as a namesake digital release.

We are thrilled to collaborate with the Venice Biennale for a second year, this time to present a concert titled »Solo Electronics.« Atlanta-based composer and sound designer Richard Devine, recognised for his creation of scratchy and textural sound stratifications, presents a live for multichannel diffusion; the artist and composer Pan Daijing creates site-specific immersive noise environments for the space of Pavilion 30 in Forte Marghera; the Danish composer Søs Gunver Ryberg's performance dives into liminal areas of electronic sound creation.
