Fam Jam: Gabber Modus Operandi & Takkak Takkak

Fam Jam key visual Design: Vojd

In July we bring back CTM Festival and DISK Agency's Fam Jam party, with a celebration of the first release from Takkak Takkak, the duo of Berlin-based Japanese screwball producer Shigeru Ishihara (aka Dj Scotch Egg, waqwaq kingdom, scotch rolex) and the Vilnius-based Indonesian junk multi-instrumentalist J. Mo’ong Santoso Pribadi (one half of Raja Kirik). Navigating a cross-continental palette with skill and humor, their release on Nyege Nyege tapes pulls equally from their experimental and humorous streaks. Pribadi and Ishihara are having a blast, and they don't care who knows. They are joined by Gabber Modus Operandi, who through explosive live performances and collaborations with Björk and Tianzhuo Chen have captured listeners worldwide with track after track becoming international dancefloor staples. The night is bound together via selections from DJ popon.

CTM Magazine

Hamselyt' Festival for experimental electronic music, Ternopil 2019 Photo: Masha Kashyna

Two new magazine articles, selected from the 2024 Sustain open call have been published.

Sound systems are not only an inherent part of the club and music culture, amplifying and liberating the dance floors and festivals across the globe, but they can also become a device mediating propaganda and intolerance. In his article »The Anatomy and Political Currency of Indian Sound Systems« the researcher and music producer Anandit Sachdev explores the political mis/use of sound systems in India to spread rightwing nationalist ideology and how Jamaican sound system subculture offers an alternative to counter reactionary political discourse.

The sound artist and ethnomusicologist Masha Kashyna explores the massive wave of emigration from Ukraine since Russia's full-scale invasion, and with it a growing rift between those who left and those who stayed behind, willingly or unwillingly. In »De-Linking, Re-Linking: Ukraine's Diasporic Gap« Kashyna talks to several Ukrainian artists about their views on leaving vs staying, as well as the present context and future hopes for Ukrainian art and culture amid an ongoing process of decolonisation.
